James Cameronīs Titanic was not the first Titanic movie, and it probably wont be the last one either. Here is a short list of movies about Titanic, but there are many more that are inspired by Titanic.

Saved from the Titanic (1912)>



Debuting on the screens only a month after the disaster. Starring Dorothy Gibson, a Titanic survivor, retelling the story for her parents. She even wore the same dress as she wore during the sinking. There are no copies left of this movie.

Titanic (1943)



A propaganda film made for nazi Germany. The movie was to show how incompetent the british was in order to boost german morale. Onboard the Titanic is a german officer trying to save the ship from sinking. The movie did make it to the screen, since bombs was falling over Germany making it impossible for anyone to go to the cinema.

Titanic (1953)



In this production, Titanic only serve as a background for a Hollywood drama about a family in crisis. First class passangers Mr and Mrs Sturges is in the middle of a divorce, but disaster forces them to think again... Starring Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck as the married couple. The film was critized since it was to obvious that they had been working with a model.

A Night to Remember (1958)



This movie is fo many THE Titanic movie of all times, at least for accuracy of detail. Based on the best selling book by Walter Lord and starring Kenneth More. The movie does not feature any fictional characters, nor romance - the reason for its lack of success in the states...

SOS Titanic (1979)



Starring David Warner, Ian Holm and Helen Mirren. The story centers around JJR Astor and his wife, second class passangers Lawrence Beesley (trying to seduce a school teatcher), Molly Brown and a group of irish emigrants. Many scenes were filmed onboard Queen Mary and the sinking scenes was cut from a A Night to Remember.

Raise the Titanic (1980) >



Based on a bestselling book. On her maiden voyage Titanic carried a rare metal that is now needed in a war system. One could say it is a cold war story really.

Titanic (1996)



A miniseries starring Peter Gallagher, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tim Curry. The story is set around a group of fictional first and third class passangers. A women that encounter an old lover aboard, a pocket-thief that steals his ticket and snobby first classers. Sopa opera of high class, a bad script, bad effects and cliches all over...
