Ghost of the Robot concert
The fifth of May
By KarinAs you all might have heard, Mara and I went to London to see Ghost of the robot. The date of the concert was May the fifth. The trip from The Netherlands to London was going to be 6 and a half hours, so we had to leave the day before if we wanted to see a little more than just the inside of the train and our hotel room before we would go the concert. Before we actually went to London we first had spend the night at my Uncle's and Aunts house, because the live a bit closer to Belgium, were we had to catch our train. The fourth of May was very hectic, because we had to take a thousand trains before we actually got on the Eurostar (the name of our train). We arrived in London round 12 o'clock after a very long, hectic and boring trip. The weather sucked big time, it rained a lot. But our hotel was nice. Only the bed was too small for me and Mara. We went out to see a little something of London. Mara and I demanded that we would go to St. James park, because the name sounded really good =P. We also ran into James Street and the St. James church. As obsessed fans we knew what to do: we took photos of the (street) signs. We had a lot of fun during that day We visited Buckingham palace and that evening we went to see the musical Fame. It was great, but it was still very hard to believe we were actually going to see James in less than 24 hours.
The next day (The Fifth!) we spend our day wandering around in London. We did our hair and make-up in the morning, so it was doomed to be ruined by the end of the day (we would not go back to the hotel until after the concert) Mara and I decided to wear pants with a lot of pockets in it, so we could sneak in our digital camera's (which were forbidden, oh yea: we're naughty). That morning I had told my mother that we wanted to be at the Carling Islington Academy around 3:00 pm, so after spending the day walking around in London and some shopping, we were ready to go there. After more than a million trains we were finally at the point when we only had to take one more train to arrive a the station we needed, called Angel (how convenient) But before the train arrived, I realised I had forgotten the code that we needed to pick up our tickets for the concert NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So. We had to go all the way back to the hotel, get the code, and go to Angel as soon as possible. Mara and I probably never looked as cranky and furious as we did on the way back to the hotel. Well to make a long and not so interesting story for you, a little shorter we arrived at the Carling Islington Academy around 4.30 PM (which was still very fast). We couldn't find the place at first, but later on, well we did!! We found the Bar Academy were we had to pick up our tickets. Then we found out it had already been closed for half an hour! Luckily the lady at the desk was still there, and we went in to get our tickets. We found out, just then, that we didn't need our code! What a waste of time it had been to pick up the code at our hotel! But anyway, we had our tickets. We went downstairs and saw that there were only a few decades of people in line, so we were lucky. We had to stand in line till 6.50 PM, and if you think of the fact that we were already on our feet for the entire day, you will understand it hurt really bad! We also discovered that we only had been to the bathroom that morning, and we really needed to go. But Mara and I were too scared to loose our places, so we tried to ignore it. When the doors finally opened, we walked to the room were the concert was going to be ( Mara actually took a good sprint) We were so excided because we were not more than 8 feet away from the spot James was going to be standing. We only didn't know that the openings act (Lazy Eye) was going to start at 8 PM, so we had to wait for another hour.
When Lazy eye started we sheered for the songs, but the more they played, the more we wanted it to be over. We wanted to see Ghost of the Robot!!! My back, feet and bladder were killing me. They played six songs, and it was ok. The vocalist said that he had already seen James backstage, and everybody screamed!! "If James his forehead starts to wrinkle and his teeth starts to grow, you should get the hell out of here" Hahaha Yeah right, and waist an opportunity like that! When they got of stage, you could feel the increase of excitement in the room. But then we found out .we had to wait another hour! After 45 minutes people started to make the stage ready for the band. Suddenly a man came on the stage, wearing a hat and purple sunglasses. I didn't really recognise him right a way, but suddenly Mara screamed "Oh my god, that's Steve!!!!" After that Charlie arrived on stage, followed by Kevin and Sean. The audience screamed and applauded, but they were just busy with the instruments. After they checked their instruments they went backstage again. Then after a minute or 5 they went back on the stage again. First Steve, then Charlie, Kevin, Sean and then JAMES!!!! OH MY GOD!!! I don't think I ever heard an audience screaming that loud!!!! (Including us of course) James looked so handsome and cute!! And when he walked up on stage I could feel al the pain in my body just disappear! There appeared a wide but shy smile on his face when he heard us screaming like that. I don't think I ever saw a more beautiful thing than the way he smiled like that. =D lol.
James was wearing black jeans with black boots and a red/brown T-shirt with short sleeves. He looked absolutely gorgeous, and when he started talking you could just feel his positive energy running trough your veins. I never met a more energetic person than he was that evening. He was so nice, loving, modest and wonderful: you just had to love him!
The band started with a song that was going to be on the new album "Gods of the Radio"
(Which will be available in September James told us, so it's TRUE) When they were done with the song, we all cheered very loud, and James chuckled, "That was really fun for us." After that James complimented us for being such a good audience, "You guys are doing a great job, now we have to catch up." He just knew how to create the perfect sphere in the room, I can't remember felling that good before in my entire life. Then they played Valerie, and Mara and I sang along with the band as loud as we could! We were one of the few people who were waving there arms in the air on the beat of the music, and James noticed it. He smiled at us and encouraged us to go on. Oh my God, I swear that my hart skipped a beat!
He looked at us a lot of times during the concert and he smiled at us as well. That was probably because we were like almost in front of him. I'm also a little hard to miss since I'm 6.1 feet. After a couple of songs he pronounced the band, "I guess it's not very necessary to tell you this, but we are Ghost of the Robot" He introduced every member of the band with there full names, and called Sean a new "ghost". He pronounced himself simply as James: "And I'm James." The building was probably shaking from all the screaming and cheering after he said that. He had that adorably shy smile on his face again.
During the concert there were a few people who screamed at James that he rocked (of course he does!) James smiled at that and thanked them "You guys all rock too, you know, It takes 2 to tango" That was so sweet! During the solo's of the instruments, James jumped around on stage and was very funny. He actually grabbed Steve's butt, and he pretended to kiss Sean on the head. ( I wish I was one of them!)
After another song that James sand, it was now Charlie's turn to sing. But we didn't knew that, so when he put his guitar down, we thought he was going to leave. James imitated him in a very funny way, "I can't take this anymore. I had it with you people" But after that Charlie walked up to the keyboard and played his song. During the song, James sat in the back of the stage, which we thought was very cool of him. He wanted Charlie to get all the attention of the audience.
In the middle of the concert James tugged on his shirt, and a few girls screamed "Take it off" He laughed at that, "Yeah later, in the dressing room" But Charlie took this very personal and ripped of his pants, so he was standing in his white boxer. "That is what you were asking for, right?" That was really funny! After every song the audience cheered so loud that James laughed in surprise every time again. Two of his quotes were: "Fuck Yeah!" and "Shit yeah!" James also announced another song with "You don't know this song, but we do!" It was a song from their new album.During a song, someone threw a little dog (not a real one of course) and James caught it. He was very happy with it and held it in his hand for the entire song. Then he laid it on the ground next to the microphone. "Thanks, a puppy, I like puppies. Although I'm more a kitten person"
He actually announced the wrong song one time. He told us the next song was going to be Katie, but it was another one. Afterwards he said "Oh, I fucked that one up"
Later James announced a song called "It's Nothing", and he said it was new one, so we couldn't know that one yet. But that was very funny, because Mara and I had just seen a video file of James his performance on the Sharon Osborne show, were they had played that song. So we knew some of the lyrics. James noticed this and shrugged his shoulders, with a "How the hell can you know that?" And he smiled very wide. His eyes had a little happy light in them that never left the entire evening. God, I think I melted, and smiled back at him.
All the band members had their own bottle of water, James actually had 2. Charlie threw some water over the audience, but it was not where we were standing, unfortunately!
When James took a sip of his water, the band already started to play the next song, so he was too late and they had to start all over again. We found it very amusing. When they had played a lot of songs, Kevin looked at his paper and said this was going to be the last song. The entire audience went "Aaaaaaaaawww" And James laughed, and cocked an eyebrow. He said "Well, it's suppose to be" in a very sexy way. We all cheered happily, but after the song was over, they left stage without saying one word. We all got a little uneasy after that. Were they really gone? Of course they were not!! They came back! At first, only Steve came on stage and started playing on his keyboard. After that the rest followed and they played a couple of songs. James almost tripped over something but he didn't fall (Thank God!) He just laughed about it. The last song was German. Jewish, "This is the last one, because we just don't know any more songs" We all sang along with it and James was very pleased. James told us that he loved us and then they left, for real this time. We went on with the applauding and cheering, and we did the "We Want More" cheer of course. After they left and we had to start walking again, the pain returned and we couldn't make it down the stairs. But we were SO happy, and we went straight to the shop to buy some goodies of the band. During the concert James had said that he would really like it if we did that, "Some of the guys live from this kind of money, you know". We both bought a T-shirt of Ghost of the robot with the names of the songs on the back, and the name of the band on the front, right across your hart =D. We also bought a single. Mara bough "New Man", and I bought "It's Nothing". There also were these very cute buttons with the name of the band on it and European Tour 2004. We both bough 5, Mara had 3 black ones, one red and one yellow one. And I had 2 black, 2 red and a yellow one. We were so incredibly happy. It was very cold outside but we didn't feel anything but joy. We put on our T-shirt and hopped the way back to the hotel. That evening we talked about it till 2.30 AM (We had to get up 7.30 AM) but we weren't even tired. We both had written James on each others forehead had with an eye pencil! And we fell asleep with James on our forehead lol.It was such a wonderful and unforgettable day for the both of us!
